Nonprofit enterprise creates jobs for overlooked, under-resources residents

With careful hands, Teresa Freund poured the fragrance into a jar before filling the cinnamon-colored container with hot wax.
As a new candlemaker, she has learned to be precise and measured as she makes candles for her new employer, TBD Creatives, which provides employment opportunities for Oklahoma City metro area residents.
Jon Mays, founder of The Good OKC church community, said his ministry started TBD Creatives to create sustainable, hand-crafted home goods while providing meaningful employment opportunities for under-resourced neighbors in Oklahoma City.

He said it is a nonprofit social enterprise that currently has space at City Care's Pershing Center, with the hope of employing more Pershing Center residents like Freund. He said TBD Creatives also provided employment for Afghan refugees who worked as seamstresses for the Good Kids Boutique in Moore, which funnels proceeds to the mission efforts of The Good OKC.
